• Punctuation & Capitalization –
Using commas with dates, addresses and with a series. Punctuating dialogue and using apostrophes to show possession and contractions. Using quotation marks and underlining and italicizing in titles. Using semicolons & colons and using hyphens & parentheses.

• Grammar & Usage –
Singular and plural nouns. Verbs, helping verbs, verb tenses, and irregular verbs. Adjectives & adverbs and comparison of adjectives and adverbs. Using pronouns correctly and prepositions.

• Sentence Construction –
Types of sentences according to function. Subject and predicate: changing the position. Making subjects and verbs agree. Sentence combining: moving key words and using appositives. Sentence fragments, sentence combining using compound subjects and predicates. Using prepositional phrases and adjective & adverb phrases. Independent and dependent clauses. Correcting run on sentences and simple compound and complex sentences.

• Paragraph Construction –
Topic sentences, adding and organizing details, editing for sentences that do not belong and writing descriptive paragraphs. Choosing detail to build mood and writing a comparison, expository & persuasive paragraphs.

• Composition Construction –
Choosing and narrowing a topic, defining purpose and audience. Listing and organizing ideas, and writing effective introductions and conclusions. Writing narratives and myth. Using description to persuade, giving directions, writing report, writing a summary and using transitions.
